March 19th, 2018
What a great night of music was March 18th at the Stanhope House! We were excited to be a part of the Jay’s Jersey Jams lineup that included Shockenaw Mountain Boys, John Ginty & Friends, and the Porchistas. The event was a fundraiser for the New Jersey musical support organization, NJArts.org.
We started the night with a mix of our originals and some of our favorite roots music. We were lucky to have John Ginty sit in on Big Bill Broozy’s “Good Liquor” and our original “Cryptic Blues” and have Andy Goessling sit in for the Rolling Stones’ “Dead Flowers” and Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “Lovelight”. What a treat to play with both world class musicians!
The Montclair hailing band, The Porchistas, followed our set with their fun and eclectic original tunes that made me want to pick up a pen and get to songwriting! Their subtle instrumental inflections were synced up perfectly with the nature of their songs and their fellow musicians. A fun set!
The set from John Ginty and Friends was nothing less than tremendous. Tim Carbone joined the band for a tasty, funky jam; a soulful local vocalist, Kiki, sat in singing a couple of Ginty’s original tunes; Marcus Randolph of the Robert Randolph Family and Marcus Randolph and My Peeples People joined in on the lap steel. Each jam seemed to be on an infinite build to dynamic musical heaven and had everyone on their feet.
Lastly, the co headliner, Shockenaw Mountain Boys took the stage. They started with a beautiful and festive Irish tune, then dove head first into the harmonies and boot stomping bluegrass tunes that soothe the soul of every roots music lover. Their last tune of the night included special guests from John Ginty & Friends and was the perfect closer to what is certainly not your “everyday” lineup of musicians.
We are certainly grateful to be a part of the event, and also to be reminded of what a great community of musicians we have in New Jersey, from your neighborhood band to the world class musicians that are still involved in the local scene.
Cheers to all!
